Class 03—February 13th and 14th
During Extra Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6 we are going to explore the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and students will also work on a project. They are going to do some activities about the movie and, by Extra Class 4, they will have finished a comic strip, written and drawn by them.
In this class, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Part 1), the goal is to introduce the story to them, chat about comic books, and have them create characters for their own comics.
Activity 2—Getting to Know Scott Pilgrim—Type of Interaction 5. Start the activity by promoting a short debate about the first question; then play the scene (from 00:00:00 to 00:05:16). Divide them into groups so they can answer the second question. Use Group Correction to deal with mistakes and ask them to read their answers. Finally, finish the activity by asking if they think Scott is a superhero or if he is similar to the characters you talked about at the beginning of the activity.
Activity 3—Creating Your Own Comic Strip (Part 1)—Type of Interaction 2. In groups, students are going to decide their characters’ profiles and the story they will be telling; visit the groups and help them out with the characteristics (write new words on the board). Use Group Correction at this point.
Class 04—February 15th and 16th
In Extra Class 4, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Part 2), the goal is to debate Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers’ relationship. Compare their profiles, analyze scenes, and continue with the comic strip project.
Activity 1—Warm-up—Type of Interaction 2. Run it as a group chat; help INTRO–A1 students with personal characteristics and personality traits (on the board).
Activity 2—Scott Pilgrim vs. Ramona Flowers—Type of Interaction 2. Play the scenes (from 00:09:31 to 00:10:30 and from 00:11:00 to 00:15:34) and ask them the first question. Then divide them into groups to answer the second question. Visit the groups and use Group Correction to deal with mistakes. As students present, use Recasting.
Activity 3—Chasing Ramona—Type of Interaction 2. Start with a group chat by asking them the first question. Keep board record of the answers. Then play the scenes (from 00:16:38 to 00:17:47 and from 00:19:54 to 00:23:13) and arrange them in groups to work on the second question. Use Group Correction.
Activity 4—Creating Your Own Comic Strip (Part 2)—Type of Interaction 2. Students are going to start writing their stories. Give them the handout with the strips and have them think about the story, the lines, and characters’ appearance. Monitor their work using Group Correction. Collect the strips because they are going to use them in the following class.
